The sound of Puscifer’s 2007 debut was worlds apart from the brooding vocal darkness we’d come to expect from TOOL/A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan. Indeed, his multimedia project was dealing in a different kind of thickness, where trip-hop beats, funk rhythms and rock riffs collided with a goofball kind-of lyrical spirit. “V” is for Vagina presents a more lighthearted Keenan, someone ready to tongue-roll their way through a compellingly sophomoric experimentalism.
