DINOSAUR JR. 'WITHOUT A SOUND' 2LP (Deluxe Edition, Gelbes Vinyl)

On the surface, 1994’s Without a Sound was released as Dinosaur Jr. were riding a commercial high. They had already been one of alt-rock’s pre-eminent forces while combining J. Mascis’ endearingly laconic drawl and bend-crazed guitar theatrics, and the album followed their big-time mainstage appearance on the previous year’s Lollapalooza tour.  It was a little more complicated behind the scenes, where longtime drummer Murph exited the lineup (Mascis handles all beats on the LP) and the death of their bandleader’s father hung heavy. Propelled by stop-start rhythms, towering guitar hooks and screeching solos, the outwardly buoyant “Feel the Pain” nevertheless became one of their greatest hits. Now available with a second LP of b-sides and live cuts.
