Souls of Black è uno dei classici più sottovalutati nella discografia dei Testament. Il LP del 1990 fu il quarto album in altrettanti anni per i pesi massimi del thrash di Berkeley, e sebbene non presentasse grandi cambiamenti nel sound perfezionato con The New Order del 1988 o Practice What You Preach del 1989, brani come “Face in the Sky” e la title track sono autentici inni dei Testament. Questo è thrash metal superiore sotto ogni aspetto, e la sua inquietante copertina appare magnifica in formato 12x12.
