IMPERAは、Ghostが前作アルバム『Prequelle』（2018年、ベスト・ロック・アルバム部門グラミー賞ノミネート）の舞台である14世紀ヨーロッパの黒死病時代から、文字通り数百年先の未来へと移動した姿を描いています。その結果、Ghostのカタログの中で最も野心的で、歌詞的に鋭い作品が誕生しました。IMPERAの12曲にわたるサイクルの中で、帝国は興亡し、自称メシアたちは（金銭的にも精神的にも）誇大広告を展開し、空が神聖かつ人工的な天体で満たされるにつれて予言が語られます... 何よりも、これまでで最も現代的で時事性の高いGhostのテーマが、催眠的でダークに彩られたメロディックな背景に乗せられ、IMPERAは他に類を見ない、しかし間違いなく本質的にGhostらしい一枚となっています。
