There was a cruel, telegraphed irony to starting 1990’s Ritual de lo Habitual with the frenetically funked, punked and thrashed “Stop!” — just a year later, after headlining lead singer Perry Farrell’s inaugural Lollapalooza tour, Jane’s Addiction broke up. Regardless, the band’s swansong — at least before their eventual late Nineties reunion — was a heck of a way to go out. Farrell’s sinewy mewling is ultra-magnetic and extra debaucherous. Guitarist Dave Navarro’s acid-dappled shred ripped through the mix above the mountain-leveling drive of the rhythm section. The gold standard of the then-impending Alternative revolution, available now on clear translucent pearl vinyl.
