The single that started it all, New York Hardcore leveled up by leaps and bounds with the release of Sick of It All’s self-titled 7-inch. The Queens quartet’s debut outing blitzes by with both scissor-beated, near grind-like intensity (“No Lies”) and surprisingly poppy street anthems (“Friends Like You”), but perhaps no song speaks to their legacy more than the knuckles-up bash of their instrumental battle anthem, “It’s Clobberin’ Time”. They’d re-record most of the songs for their Blood, Sweat and No Tears album, but 1987’s self-titled is an important and uniquely raw part of the Sick of It All catalogue.
