Slayer’s 1996 mostly-covers album presents the evil thrash masters at their most hardcore — and we mean that literally. Undisputed Attitude features a series of mega-pissed and blisteringly speedy takes on songs from first-wave hardcore crews including Minor Threat, D.R.I., Verbal Abuse and more. It also reenvisions snarling heaters originally written for late guitarist Jeffe Hanneman’s punky Pap Smear side-project, and goes out with a gloomy edge on the lone Slayer original, “Gemini.”  Guitarist Kerry King once called Undisputed Attitude a tribute to the bands that “made Slayer what it is,” yet it seethes in a way that only Slayer can.
